An in-flight mistake

Ultimately, this probably isn’t worth writing about. Mistakes are part of my MO, and if I can get someone else to laugh, or at least crack a grin, at my expense, then I’m okay with it. So I’m writing about this as it did end up bringing someone a little bit of mirth.

90% of the flight was perfect. Until Jules needed a diaper change.

The airplane restroom diaper swap is a maneuver I’ve successfully executed before. And honestly, Julia is the easiest part of the experience. But because I’m already in a bathroom, it just makes sense for me to go as well. And with the changing table situated above the toilet, it really shouldn’t be much of a challenge…until it became clear that the seat can’t be fully lifted while Julia is still lounging on her table. So instead of bringing her back to Lindsay and then returning solo for a much safer endeavor, I’ve got to give it a shot.

Now, I knew I looked ridiculous, but that point was really nailed home when, with pants around my ankles in the most awkward single legged squat I’ll never be attempting again, Julia, who is basically at eye-level due to my pee crouch, rolls her head lazily to the right and belly laughs in my face.

That’s it. No diaper blowout, no angry mob forming outside the door while I fumble for wet wipes. Just me, doing half naked calisthenics while my kid reminds me that I’m an idiot. And it won’t be the last time.

Told you it probably wasn’t worth writing about.
